Review: The Freeing of the World by AM Knight
All telling and no showing
Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley and my opinion is entirely my own.
I want to begin this review by saying that I didn't finish this book. This is rare for me, as I will often push through to the end of a book that I'm reviewing just to give it an honest go. But there are just some books that aren't worth that sort of effort.
The Freeing of the World by A.M. Knight tells us everything we need to know about its world. It also tells us everything we need to think and feel. It leaves absolutely no room for nuance or subtlety. It's written like it's a matter of fact non-fiction book about the world, just giving us the facts with none of the feeling.
We are told exactly what the characters are and the role they play without any sort of grandiosity or flavour. Feeling more like a scene by scene outline, The Freeing of the World needs a considerable amount of time before it could possibly be considered a complete novel.
I was excited for this one because the description made it sound as though it had some potential, but it just left me feeling dejected.
